That’s a strange question to be asking and one that, at first sight, might tempt you to reply with “no one and never”. That is until you begin to think about it a little deeper.
Fixed Hand Wash Basins
They are everywhere. Kitchens, bathrooms, restrooms, factory and workshop floors and even out of doors in a number of places. In fact, they are found almost anywhere that people might feel the need to wash their hands on a regular basis. However, there will always be places where it might not be practical to install a fixed basin but people passing through could still want to wash their hands and; in those cases, a portable hand wash basin could be the ideal solution.
The “How” Part
How to use them is obvious; you use them exactly the same way as you would with a fixed basin. How to get one might not seem to be so obvious; but, in these days of internet connections and search engines; it is actually very easy. A quick search will reveal that companies do make a wide range of mobile sinks and basins for every conceivable use. Furthermore; they are being made here in the United States.
How Do They Work?
Go back to the fixed basin; the days of hanging it from a wall with brackets have largely gone. Today’s basins come in “nice” cabinets. Put wheels or castors on the bottom of such a cabinet and it becomes portable.
But; the fixed basin is fed water straight from the building’s supply pipes and empties out straight into the building’s waste water drainage system. How do you do this and still be portable? Again; the solution is simplicity itself. If there is a nearby source of piped water; then you can run a hose from that to your portable basin; if not, you can have a water tank within the housing cabinet. That water can be pumped to the basin’s faucet(s) –passing through a water heater if required. Used water can drain off into another storage tank. If there is no electricity; foot pumps or batteries can be utilized.
Who, When, Where And Why
Once you accept the concept of a portable hand wash basin; anyone with soiled hands could use it. That also covers the “why”. As to the “when” part; there is more to it than – “whenever their hands are soiled”. It is more a question of “where they are at the time”. A good example would be on a camping trip in a more remote area; but things like large outdoor events that take place at venues devoid of buildings suitable for making into washrooms can also benefit (as would anywhere where there are people and fixed washing facilities are not a practical option).
