Those of you with a gas cooker might recognize one type of gas burner as the ones that you rest your saucepans on to cook with. However, those are not the only kinds of gas burners in existence and you will probably be aware of many more types when they are brought to your attention. For instance, if you have ever wondered how your boiler or emersion heater works you might consider the idea that it has a gas burner inside it, which, when lit, will act as the pilot light and heat the water in your entire home. Also, the same type of burner can be applied to central heating methods where the home has water filled radiators.
Plenty of gas burners in the Sea
Melting furnaces and kilns also require the use of naked flame style gas burners that can provide the right kind of flame for each environment. For instance, glass blowing furnaces and iron and steel workers all rely on a gas operated furnace that has a naked flame and can raise to temperatures of anything from five hundred to two thousands degrees. When lead, steel and iron are smelted down they require the right kind of furnace to assist in that process. The same applies to kilns at pottery works and ceramics factories. The kilns have to be gas operated because the flame and the temperatures are controllable, whereas an electric furnace or kiln is not so.
Any burner requiring a naked flame will usually be operated by some kind of gas, including butane, propane and natural gas. Schools use Bunsen burners to help children with science experiments and this requires a naked flame, as well. Bunsen burners—named after Robert Bunsen, who effectively invented them—are small cylindrical desktop burners that attach to a gas tap on the science lab desk. When the gas is turned on the burners will work, but otherwise they will not. They require a sensible approach and an adult to supervise in a classroom environment.
Every gas burner that serves a distinct purpose has a reason for being created. We, as humans, will always need such items for running our hot water heaters, boilers and other such stuff.
